LIVING KRIYA YOGA
Be Steadfast on the Path
Self-realization can definitely be accomplished by
every reasonably intelligent person who chooses to live a
well-ordered life and to nurture their spiritual growth.

uring his last meeting with Paramahansa Yoga-
nanda, the young monk Roy Eugene Davis listened
carefully to his beloved guru’s advice. Paramahansaji
counseled him to remain steadfast on the path of Self- and God-realization, to be
dedicated to the goal of enlightenment in this lifetime and know it was possible
for him. Paramahansaji said, “Don’t allow yourself to be too concerned about what
others do or don’t do. Don’t look back. Don’t look to the left or to the right. Look
straight ahead to the goal and go all the way in this lifetime. You can do it.”
At the age of 18, Mr. Davis was initially introduced to this great yoga master
who brought the teachings of Kriya Yoga from India to the West in 1920, through
reading his book, The Autobiography of a Yogi. Trusting the strong spiritual
connection he felt, he travelled across country to meet his guru in person in
December of 1949. He was accepted by him for discipleship and monastic
training. Following his ordination by Paramahansaji in 1951, he served as a
minister in his guru’s organization at the Self-Realization Fellowship Phoenix
Center. After the passing of Paramahansa Yogananda, the young minister left the
organization but remained committed to the teaching tradition and dedicated to
serving his guru’s mission to bring the liberating teachings of Kriya Yoga to
seeking souls everywhere.
More than sixty years have passed since those early days with his guru and still
the steadfast dedication remains. Mr. Davis has taught in more than 100 cities in
North America and in Japan, Brazil, Europe, West Africa, and India. Some of his
books are published in 10 languages and in 11 countries. The Spiritual Director
of Center for Spiritual Awareness, Mr. Davis leads meditation retreats throughout
the year, teaches in the US and internationally through his classes and publica-
tions, he publishes Truth Journal Magazine and Studies in Truth lessons, and trains
disciples and ministers in the tradition of Kriya Yoga.
When he was ordained, Paramahansaji said to him, “Teach as I have taught.
Heal as I have healed. Initiate devotees of God into Kriya Yoga.” Today, thousands
of people worldwide have been initiated by Roy Eugene Davis. In the spirit of his
great teacher, he has encouraged them to be steadfast on the path and to awaken
fully in this lifetime.
