YOGA AT WORK: How Spiritual Practice Affects Our Lives

Kriya Yoga

 is a spiritual philosophy

and practice that supports spiritu-

ally conscious, engaged, responsible

living in the world. It’s a practical

method that is appropriate for people

from different backgrounds who are

engaged in many different walks of life.

Enlightment

Journal spoke

with our CSE

operational

staff Facilities

Manager, Brian

McIntyre, about

how his spiritual

practice of Kriya

Yoga influences

his life and his

work. Brian has

been practicing Kriya Yoga for three

years. He shares, “Kriya Yoga leads

me to seek a more rich and fulfilling

life through the practice of being

conscious and aware, being mindful

of the yamas and niyamas, and the

eight-fold path. It inspired me to open

my own business in service to others

through property maintenance and

improvement. Being a devotee in this

tradition gives me the opportunity

to share my gifts with others—with

people on this path in community. I

like to restore and repair things and

can see the beauty in everything. I am

working for God, the Divine, instead

of  ‘working for the man.’  I experience

my work as fulfilling, peaceful, and

challenging.”

What was it about Kriya Yoga that

called to you to serve in this way?
One of the main things that called

to me about Kriya Yoga is that it is

non-dogmatic, not a religion, and is

welcoming and open to all. It helps me

connect with my soul and with others.

Connecting with others is very impor-

tant to me.
What does selfless service mean

to you?
Selfless service means being able to

share my God-given gifts and talents

with others without attachment or

expectation. It is an opportunity to

bring happiness to others.
How are you inspired to contribute to

supporting the Center’s vision, mission

and purpose?
I love being here. I feel peace, content-

ment and satisfaction through the

teachings, my studying and reading. I

enjoy being of service and interacting

with the community. For all these

reasons, I’m very motivated to provide

the care and support of the property

to help foster this oasis of peace in

the community, the world and the

hearts of individuals. As I look at our

vision, mission and purpose, I feel that

everything that I do contributes to

supporting them.
