LIGHTING THE PATH FOR CHILDREN

Parenting th   Spiritual Awareness

Anthony Marek

Each and every one of us

comes into this world whole. For

those of us who are blessed to have

children, it is our sacred responsibility

to support and nurture the divinity

within our children in order to help

facilitate its blossoming and to assist

their conscious recognition of their

innate wholeness.

When I reflect on why I am on

this earth in this human form, and

what my purpose is in this lifetime, I

continually come back to the fact that

I am the father of two young daugh-

ters. I can think of no more honorable

responsibility than that of nurturing

the spiritual life of my children.

Like everything else involved with

families and parenting, each of us will

come to find what speaks to our soul,

and uncover that which also resonates

with the true nature of our children.

What we put our attention toward is

what we create and manifest. I find it

comforting to begin with the basics.

The fact is, we are our children’s first

and most important teachers. We are

their first contact with this world, and

the ones who model what it means

to be in human form. How are we

showing up? Let us make a commit-

ment, if not for ourselves, for the souls

of our children, that we will show up

with intention and consciousness to

exhibit the values that we hold dear—

love, kindness, patience, forgiveness,

understanding, and perhaps most

importantly, our undivided attention.

Let us remember that we are human

beings, not human doings. Let us

simply be present with our children

to listen and truly hear their inner

voice evolving and experiencing and

expressing. Let us be the solid rocks

of ages from which the new flowers of

spring miraculously bloom, splashing

forth their incredible, radiant, indi-

vidually unique beauty.

The yamas and niyamas, or

restraints and observances, of the

Kriya Yoga path are a solid foundation

to incorporate into our lives and help

us be conscious parents—truthfulness,

harmlessness, non-stealing, content-

ment, to name a few. What are my

thoughts, words, and actions as I go

about my daily business? Our children

are watching and learning, minute to
