can be helpful, as can chiropractic

adjustments. Cultivate devotion.

Your soul peace and clarity of aware-

ness need not be determined by the

actions of kundalini energies. If you do

not feel their movements or experience

their effects, you can still contemplate

the truth of your being and the reality

of God.
Overcoming the Three Major Obsta-
cles to Liberation of Consciousness

Yogic literature describes three

obstacles which may interfere with the

smooth flow of kundalini energies.

Described as "knots" or impediments

which confine awareness, they are

related to the base chakra, the fourth

chakra, and the spiritual eye center:
1. Obstacle related to the base chakra.

Strong attachment to the realm of

nature, its objects and processes. This

kind of attachment elicits desire for

material things, sense pleasures, and to

accomplish ego-driven goals. It keeps

attention flowing outward, causes the

mind to be restless, and interferes with

meditative concentration. This obstacle

can be overcome by dispassionately

relating to the realm of nature without

mental or emotional attachment to it,

and by regular practice of supercon-

scious meditation.
2. Obstacle related to the fourth

chakra. Attachment to sentimental

feelings and thoughts, and to the urge

to perform good deeds and be helpful

to others. This obstacle can be over-

come by selflessly rendering useful

service, purifying the ego-sense, and

aspiring to awaken to more refined

levels of Self- and God-realization.
3. Obstacle related to the spiritual

eye chakra. Attachment to subjective

perceptions (visions, ecstasy, pleasant

moods) and exceptional abilities and

powers of perception which may

accompany preliminary stages of

Self-realization. This obstacle can be

overcome by withdrawing attention

from and transcending mental and

astral phenomena and contemplating

the field of pure existence-being which

is devoid of attributes.
